  • LinkedIn to face lawsuit over repeated invitation emails

    LinkedIn Corp. (LNKD) will face a lawsuit from members suing it for allegedly violating their privacy by tapping into their external email accounts and downloading their contacts’ addresses to recruit more users.

    U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh ruled that the class-action lawsuit may proceed, which means members who sued can seek damages for money the professional-networking website made using their email address book information for marketing purposes on multiple occasions, Bloomberg reported.

  • N.C. uses drone to research historic site near Sanford

    A team from the geography department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will be using drones to explore the House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site near Sanford.

    The project, which is conducted in cooperation with the Office of State Archaeology, begins Monday and will last six weeks, reports WNCN.

  • Study: Duke Energy tops among world power companies for women in key posts

    A new study on women in the power and utility industry ranks Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE:DUK) first among the 100 largest power companies internationally for women in decision-making positions.

    The report — released by international consulting firm EY, formerly known as Ernst & Young — is titled “Talent on the table: index of women in power & utilities.” It is the first attempt by EY to evaluate the industry’s record in tapping women for important board, executive and management posts.

  • 'Upscale cocktail parlor' coming to Raleigh's Fayetteville Street

    A new venue that describes itself as an “upscale cocktail parlor” is coming to downtown Raleigh.

    Common 414 will be opening at 414 Fayetteville Street – although its Facebook page doesn’t indicate when.

    The bar will serve drinks from “easy sipping libations to serious cocktails” and have outdoor seating. Hours will be 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.
