  • Aereo looks to get itself classified as a cable company

    It looks like TV-over-the-web service Aereo, which was declared illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court last month, is looking to become a cable company.

    In a message to customers on Wednesday, Aereo CEO Chet Kanojia said that the company filed a letter with a New York district court that lays out Aereo’s potential Plan C, transforming itself into a traditional cable company. The company last month said it was “pausing” its service and then later called on customers to contact their lawmakers.

  • Cary town council hires town clerk to replace retiring Sue Rowland

    The Cary town council has chosen a new town clerk candidate to succeed Sue Rowland, who is retiring after 22 years with the town and more than 30 years in public service.

    The town has offered the position to Sherry Scoggins, who currently serves as town clerk for Clayton. Scoggins, 47, will begin her new duties in Cary on July 28.

  • Ledo Pizza, Firehouse Subs sign on for new 54 Plaza project in Durham

    Ledo Pizza, a Maryland pizza company with no previous ties to the Triangle, has signed a deal to be one of the first tenants in a new commercial building that recently broke ground in eastern Durham County.

    Both Ledo Pizza and Firehouse Subs have committed to opening new restaurants in the 54 Plaza buildings now underway at the intersection of Miami Boulevard and N.C. 54 near Morrisville. The project’s first building is slated to open early next year.

  • AGTA: Stay out of RDU, Uber and Lyft

    Uber, Lyft: Stay out of RDU.

    That’s the stern warning being issued Thursday by the Airport Ground Transportation Association. The allegation the organization is making? That ridesharing companies such as Uber and Lyft are operating illegally at major airports – including RDU.
